Gym Etiquette Reminders

At the Downtown Athletic Club, we take pride in maintaining a space that’s welcoming, safe, and motivating for everyone. Whether you’re lifting heavy, stretching it out, or getting your heart rate up, a little courtesy goes a long way. Here are a few simple reminders to help keep our Fitness Floor enjoyable for all members and guests.

Wear Proper Footwear

Closed-toed, athletic shoes must be worn at all times; with the exception of inside the Mind Body Studio, locker rooms, and pools (hint: shoes are still required to and from each destination). This helps prevent injuries and keeps our facility clean and safe for everyone.

Handle Equipment with Care

Prevent dropping weights, and be mindful of your surroundings. If you’re using equipment that others might be waiting for, kindly offer to “work in” together, and return the favor when the roles are reversed.

Phone Usage

We all love a quick scroll, but the Fitness Floor is a shared space. Avoid sitting on your phone between sets so others can access equipment when needed. Phone calls are not permitted on the second floor, but allowed in the Lobby or near the Welcome Desk. If you intend on taking pictures or videos, be sure to ask consent from those around you.

Clean and Return Equipment

Sanitize all machines, benches, and accessories after use. When you’re finished, return everything to its original place. If you’re unsure where something belongs, please ask a staff member, we’re happy to help.

Dress for the Workout

Please wear appropriate, athletic attire that allows you to move freely and safely. For example, pajamas, blue jeans, slacks, dresses, and boots are not appropriate workout attire.

Respect ZONE Workout Space

Avoid taking equipment from the ZONE during ZONE workouts. Here’s the ZONE schedule. If you’d like to try a class, your first one is on us! Contact Augie at aschiano@downtownac.com to schedule yours.

Keeping the Fitness Floor clean, safe, and respectful ensures that every workout—yours and everyone else’s—is a great one. Thank you for doing your part to make the DAC a community built on respect, wellness, and shared goals.
