Youth Membership + Facility Policies

At the Downtown Athletic Club, we want every family to feel confident walking through our doors; whether it’s your child’s first time, or they’re becoming a regular. This post covers everything you need to know about how youth memberships work and what to expect during your visit. The Lower Level is your family’s home base with a high-school regulation sized basketball court, ping pong table, racquetball/squash courts, pickleball courts, volleyball court, and pools. Family hours are daily, open to close on the Lower Level, though the Gymnasium and pool schedules take priority.

Youth Membership Rates

Whether you’re back in town for the season or just carving out time for yourself, it’s easy to get started. Child add-ons don’t need a 30-day cancellation policy, but you must downgrade their membership in writing by the 1st of the month to avoid charges. Ready to add your child? Complete our Add Child membership form here and we’ll take care of the rest.

Ages 0–13: No additional cost. Children ages 0-13 can be added to their parent or guardian’s membership for free! We believe that giving kids early, easy access to a health club builds habits that stick.

Ages 14–23: $25/month add-on. Teens and young adults can stay on their parent or guardian’s membership for just $25 per month. Youth memberships are month-to-month, so there’s no long-term commitment.

Age 24+: Time for their own membership. At 24, individuals are transitioned off their parent or guardian’s account and will need to set up a membership of their own. Our membership team is happy to walk them through options when the time comes.

Youth Policies + Waivers

A Youth Waiver is required for all children ages 0–17. Whether they’re joining as a member or visiting as a guest, a parent or legal guardian must sign to guarantee access. Waivers can be completed at the Welcome Desk or electronically.

If you’re not sure whether a waiver is on file for your child, our front desk team can look it up.

General Club Access for Youth Members

Ages 0-13: Must be supervised by a responsible adult (ages 18+) at all times while inside the Club.

Ages 14+: May use the Club without adult supervision.

General Club Access for Youth Guests

Members in good standing may bring guests of any age. A completed Youth Waiver (signed by the guest’s legal guardian) is required before access is granted.

Ages 0-17: Youth guests must be accompanied by a responsible adult (age 18+) for the entire visit. That adult can be either a member or another guest.

Ages 18+: Adult guests may visit the Club independently under our standard Rules and Policies.

Members ages 14–17 do not need supervision themselves, but they cannot serve as the supervising adult for a minor guest. If you’re 16 and want to bring a 15-year-old friend, an adult (age 18+) still needs to be present for the guest.

Fitness Floor + Group Exercise

Age 13: Before accessing the 2nd-floor fitness areas or Group Exercise classes, 13-year-olds must complete our Junior Orientation (a short, hands-on session with a Certified Personal Trainer that walks younger members through equipment use and Club expectations). After completing their orientation, they can access approved fitness areas, still with adult supervision. Child add-ons, ages 14-23, are encouraged to take the Junior Orientation.

To schedule, email Tao at tgalindo@downtownac.com.

Ages 14-17: The Junior Orientation is strongly recommended for this age group. It’s a great way to build confidence on the floor, learn gym etiquette, and learn how to properly utilize equipment. Teens ages 14+ can use the fitness floor and attend Group Exercise classes on their own.

Locker Rooms

Ages 0-15: May utilize the respective Junior Locker Room or the Family Changing Room on the Lower Level.

Ages 16+: May utilize the respective adult locker room, or the Family Changing Room on the Lower Level.

On Sundays only, families may use designated areas of the adult locker rooms together. Children must remain within arm’s reach of their parent or guardian and be respectful of other members using the space. Family access is available throughout the Men’s Locker Room and in the lower level of the Women’s Locker Room. The upper Women’s Locker Room remains reserved for adult use.

These policies keep the Club a safe and well-supervised space for everyone, and it’s something our team is always happy to clarify when you arrive. You can also review our Rules and Policies here.

If you’re not sure whether your child needs an orientation, whether a waiver is on file, or which locker room arrangement works best for your family on a given day: just ask. We’d rather answer the question at the front door than have you guessing. We’re here to help make you and your family feel welcomed and comfortable.
