Looking to level up your recovery routine? We now offers cold waterfall showers, giving members the opportunity to experience the benefits of cold therapy. Our team has installed two; one in the men’s locker room and another on the pool deck near the women’s locker room entrance. Each at a crisp 50°F.
What is Cold Therapy?
Cold therapy involves immersing the body in very cold water, typically around 50-60°F (10-15°C)—or even as cold as 40°F in some cases—for a short period of time. (Brighten, 2024)
Potential Benefits of Cold Therapy
The potential benefits below are stated by Clinical Research Program Administrator, Christina Sauder.
1. Improved Circulation: Cold water encourages the constriction and subsequent dilation of blood vessels, promoting better circulation throughout the body.
2. Enhanced Recovery: Athletes and fitness enthusiasts use cold exposure to help reduce inflammation, swelling, and muscle soreness after workouts.
3. Boosted Immune Function: May stimulate the production of immune cells, potentially strengthening the immune system.
4. Mental Well-being: Triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” chemicals, which can help improve mood and reduce stress.
5. Weight Management: Could potentially help activate brown fat, which burns calories to generate heat, aiding in metabolism and weight management.
6. Improved Sleep Quality: The drop in body temperature following a cold shower mimics the body’s natural cooling process before sleep, which can promote better rest. (Sauder, 2024)
Ready to Take the Plunge?
Whether you’re looking to speed up recovery, boost energy, or simply challenge yourself, our new cold waterfall showers are a great way to incorporate the benefits of cold therapy into your routine. Give it a try and feel the difference!
Consult with a Healthcare Professional: Before starting any cold exposure routine, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional. Individuals with cardiovascular issues or other medical concerns may need specific guidance to ensure the practice is safe for them.
