You keep your routine through Eugene’s rainy season by giving it three things: a roof, a time on the calendar, and personal support. The weather is going to do what it does from now until spring, but your week doesn’t have to change with it.
What happens to your routine when the rain comes back?
If you’ve lived in Eugene for more than one October, you know the pattern. Summer routines are easy. The Ridgeline Trail is dry, the loop through Alton Baker is full of runners, and Saturday Market gives you a great start to your weekend. Then the first handfull of rainy days roll in, the leaves on the South Park Blocks turn slick, and the morning run becomes a “maybe tomorrow.”
That isn’t a willpower problem, it’s a planning problem. Outdoor habits depend on the weather cooperating, and for the next six months it mostly won’t. The fix is to move a few of your favorite habits inside before the gray settles in, so that rain changes your route, not your routine.
How can you trade your outdoor favorites for indoor ones?
Start with what you already love and find its indoor match. If your summer was built around runs along the Willamette, try Cycle Beats with Nate on Mondays from 12pm – 12:45pm or 5:30pm – 6:15pm in the Cycle Studio. You get the same steady effort and the same sweat, set to music that keeps you honest about your pace.
If Spencer Butte was your weekend climb, Cardio Step with Marianne on Tuesdays from 9am – 9:45am gives your legs and lungs a similar challenge without the mud. If you spent August swimming or floating the river, the Lap Pool is open year-round, and you can check open lanes on the lap pool schedule before you head over.
And if you’ve been meaning to get stronger before ski season or spring trail season, this is the time to work with one of our personal trainers. A few sessions now give you a plan you can carry through the whole winter.

Why does a class on the calendar beat good intentions?
A rainy morning makes the couch very convincing. A class on your calendar pushes back. Courtney’s Spin on Wednesdays at 5:30pm in the Cycle Studio, for example, gives you a set time, an instructor who learns your name, and familiar faces who say hello when you walk in. In a dark, wet month, that small bit of connection is often what gets you out the door.
With more than 70 Group X classes across all seven days, there’s always room for one more. You can browse the full class schedule or the DAC app and pick one class to anchor each week. By the time the sun comes back over Skinner Butte, those familiar faces will feel like part of your week.
How do you stay loose and steady as the days get darker?
Shorter days and colder mornings tend to show up in your body first: tight hips, stiff shoulders, and less energy by midafternoon. For many people, movement that focuses on range of motion helps. GYROKINESIS® with Marilyn, new this fall, runs on Wednesdays from 12:15pm – 1:15pm in Studio 1, and it is a slow, breath-led hour that opens up the whole body. Ellovè® with Chelsea now has a Sunday session at 10:30am in addition to Wednesdays at 11am, which makes a calm start to a rainy weekend.
If you want focused, one-on-one attention on posture and core strength, a private session at Downtown Pilates is a good fit for this time of year. Then finish the day warm: the sauna, steam room, and hot tub are there for exactly the kind of evening when the rain is coming sideways off the Willamette. If you’d like a little extra help recovering, you can book an assisted stretch with personal trainer Karra.
What’s one small step you can take this week?
Pick one rainy day this week and decide now what you’ll do at the Club that day. Write the class and the time on your calendar the way you’d write down a meeting. If you’d like help building a full fall routine, contact Jen at jstanton@downtownac.com, and she’ll help you find classes that fit your week. We’ll see you inside.

Under one roof you’ll find a full Gymnasium, Cardio + Strength Floor, Group Exercise classes, a Lap Pool, warm-water therapy pool, Downtown Pilates Studio, The ZONE training program, Newberry Preschool, and KidStop Daycare.
